This week in Hammerhead swim
Well morning practices started today and we have a mock meet tonight. Please be there no later then 5 we will try and get started at 5:30
Keep in mind, tonight will look like chaos. We use this to work out all of the kinks, and will not be smooth sailing, it never is. Parents, your job is to learn your volunteer assignments and to ask questions. The Kids are learning where they need to be and when.
When you arrive the first thing you will do is find the volunteer board near the shallow end of the pool and grab your name tag. If you dont know what your job means, we will explain it to you. Next job will be to write on your swimmers arm in sharpie their events. It will be a series of three numbers, the first number is the event number second the heat number, followed by the lane number. If you dont know what this means or how to find out, we will explain it tonight. Often we will note after those three numbers either a stroke or which leg of the relay they are in.
Be patient, we will get through it and the next meet will be much smoother.
Next item this week is the real meet at Shakerag. Please arrive early enough to get your swimmer into their bullpen and get your job, so they can be in the pool warming up at 5 sharp! Meet will start at 5:30. Information on Shakerag is below:
The Shakerag Sharks Swim Team looks forward to hosting the Hillbrooke Hammerheads on Thursday June 3rd. We are praying for sunny weather with no afternoon thunderstorms! Meghann Gavin and I are the team co-directors and Leigha Whitridge is our head coach this season. For this Thursday’s meet, the following guidelines will be in place:
- Pool Layout: Our pool has a total of 8 lanes. We will be using all 8 lanes however Lanes 1 and 8 will be exhibition lanes for Heat 1. Those lanes will not score points but these swimmers will receive a ribbon. Hopefully, this will speed up the meet.
- Masks: Wearing a mask will be up to each swimmer and swim family’s personal decision. We do not mandate them for our home meets.
- Pool Deck Seating: We are allowing parents to set up seats on the pool deck but only 1 row of chairs along the long ends of the pool. No seating along the shorter ends. We have a very large field right next to the pool that is ideal for bullpen set up and additional parent seating.
- Bullpen Setup: Feel free to set up your bullpens in the large grass field that is next to our pool area.
- Concessions: We will have a full service concession stand at the meet serving candy, chips, pizza, soda and bottled water. Additionally, we will have a homemade kettle corn vendor and Kona Ice truck for Thursday night.
The pool address is 7220 Devonhall Way Johns Creek, GA 30097. There are two entrances to the pool. Parents may park in the Laurelwood subdivision or Devonhall subdivision. Please ask them to not park on the sides which says NO parking. The Laurelwood entrance is off McGinnis Ferry on Quailbrook Chase.
