    2020 swim season?

All, I know many of you have been waiting to hear what the plan is for this year.  Although we still do not have any definite answers, the possibilities are narrowing down for us.  Let me preface all of this by saying, we are governed by ASA and ultimately they will give the final set of ruled for whatever we can do in 2020.

Just as a general background, we must as a state get to Phase 2 (allowing gatherings of up to 50) to have any sort of a season or practice, so that is a threshold barrier.  Phase 3 allowing us gatherings of up to 250 would be needed to have a normal season.  The goal would be to have any season finish up by August 1.  Given these parameters it seems clear that our best case scenario would be a team existing in Phase 2.

In a phase 2 swim team it is very important that everyone understand that this is not anything like what a normal summer swim team experience would be. This is a totally different animal.  Both parents and children would need to make sure their expectations are reset.  This would most likely run from the end of June (beginning of July) to the first of August.  A Phase 2 swim season would consist of daily morning practices by age group.  Who would be allowed in the pool and at what times would have to be determined later.  Children and parents would be asked to maintain social distancing throughout the time at practice.  Because of the difficulties of this, parents would have to sign a covid-19 waiver for both the league and the team.  Coaches would not be allowed in the pool or to touch the kids.  Because of this we likely will not be able to use Junior Coaches.  Coach Ashley had planned on bringing in an assistant coach for the season, if she is still available, it would likely just be the two of them. But again, this is a little up in the air on how we will do this.

Swim meets would be done "virtually".  What this means is that once a week each age group (at their morning practice time) would swim time trials.  Much like a meet they would have their events, they would swim and they will be timed.  The times would be entered into the system against another team.  We would not be going to another pool, they will not be coming here.  There would be no evening events at all, no concessions stand etc.

Now, again, this is how this has been proposed by ASA.  This may change.  Our thinking on this is as follows.  Maybe something with swim is better then nothing and that the kids need and deserve some sort of activity.  Coach Ashley is amazing at making things fun for the kids and as different as all of this is I bet they will still have fun.

Our timeline for definite answers is between May 22 and June 5 (which would be the leagues drop dead date).  We are monitoring everything weekly. If you have signed up, or will sign up and the season does not happen, your fees will be refunded from both us and ASA.

I know this is still pretty vague but it is the extent of what we know.  I'm happy to answer questions if you have any.  Thanks for you patience, and I hope to see all of you very soon!
